Muslim Nenkaev & Isa Nenkaev

bastashevski-state business-exhibition view

On the 7th of December, 2002, a group of armed and masked military operatives dragged brothers Muslim Nenkaev, 20, and Isa Nenkaev, 25, from their house in Urus Martan, Chechnya. They were thrown into an unmarked military vehicle and taken to an undisclosed location. The following morning, their father, Moldi Nenkaev, contacted the office of the local militia. The authorities denied any involvement in the abduction, and suggested that the perpetrators were insurgents. For several years, Moldi continued to appeal to various Russian legal bodies, seeking an official explanation. After being referred back and forth between a number of institutions, his case was suspended due to a lack of evidence. In 2008, Moldi Nenkaev referred the case to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. The whereabouts of Muslim and Isa remain unknown.
